How is it so different today- It's not!

Freedom is everything...Yet,The cycle down for the USA is that we have forgotten what keeps us free. We are to busy trying to make money, sue everybody over what offends us, debating over wither to give tax sanctions to Gay marriage,Abortion, or what is ballot stuffing or did the people in Florida really figured out how to use a voting machine.

Government should not legislate morality- that's not Governments Job-The founding Father's created the constitution & drafted the bill of rights to protect our basic freedom's, Free speech-Free Press-Freedom of Religion-Right to bare Arms-
But then it's up to us to choose what we do with those freedom's.....
But Now, if I bow my head to pray in a public school-while wearing a cross on my shirt- I would be told to stop sent home to change-
How the hell is that freedom???

Spunkey, I agree with a lot of what you say, but can there be real freedom under a government? Or within a capitalist society?

I think freedom is all relative. Believe me, I think stuff like the example you gave (not being able to pray or wear a cross) is ridiculous. Political correctness has gone crazy, to the point where the actual evilness of racism and religious hatred have been overlooked and emphasis is on up to date P.C words and terminology.
But the level of freedom we (European and American) enjoy is surely more than others in other parts of the world? Are you not more free than the people of Zimbabwe for example?
Not being able to wear a cross in school is obviously restricting your freedom, but at least you can go to school (pre-liberated Iraq being your example). Sure, it's wrong to stop you wearing your cross, but perhaps we should think about other places that are truly restricted and people that suffer rather than worrying about restrictions of freedom in our societies which are entwined with the very foundation of how we live. Capitalism and greed walk hand in hand. A Government shouldn't govern morality, but it must make laws (or restrictions!)

There is no war in Iraq. I don't see any reports of anyone officially declaring war on Iraq.
I do however see plenty of reports of the Geneva convention being disregarded by the "goodies" and the "baddies".
War is shit beyond comprehension by all but those who have served active duty. I respect anyone willing to die professionally. I do not respect politicians who start illegal wars.
Well I don't know about the Americans, but we certainly did.
The monarch, via proclamations or Orders in Council, may declare war or treaties, without the input of the Commons/Lords. In reality, the declaration of war and the signing of treaties is done by the Prime Minister acting on behalf of the Crown. The 2003 declaration of war against Iraq was done by a Prime Minister and not by the monarch. One is a democratically elected politician accountable to the electorate via an election; the other is in the position by a quirk of birth.
But I guess they don't post that through every letterbox in the country. It took me all of 2 minutes to find that through Google.
